Pop-Kultur Festival: looking back

EventMCG Network

We were once again part of the Pop-Kultur Festival this year. With two exciting talks, fantastic guests, and important conversations around music, visibility, and empowerment. What was particularly great: both events were completely sold out!

“Empowerment vs. Reproduction? Queer-Feminist Rap, Hyperpop, and the Debates Around Explicit Pop Culture”

Mariybu and Nebou N’Diaye (Bangerfabrique) joined moderator Julia Gröschel for a discussion about the boundaries between empowerment and reproduction, reclaiming and cliché — and why explicit content by female and queer artists is so often judged differently from that of their male colleagues. The talk was curated by our board member Pamela Owusu-Brenyah. The Kuppelhalle was filled to capacity: the discussion was nuanced, lively, and entertaining at the same time. Many thanks to Mariybu, Nebou N’Diaye, and Julia Gröschel for their strong contributions and valuable perspectives!

“Behind the Voice I Producer Talk & Listening Session with EVÎN”

The migas listening bar was also filled to capacity for “Behind the Voice.” EVÎN gave fascinating insights into her journey from Berlin to international studios and spoke about her work with German and international artists, her involvement in songs by Drake, and how important strong teams, good collaboration, and networks are to building your own path. EVÎN is one of the seven winners of the Female* Producer Prize 2023. Her impressive journey shows how important visibility, support, and networking are. The talk was moderated by our board member Pamela Owusu-Brenyah. We warmly congratulate EVÎN on her fantastic achievements and thank her for the open insights, valuable tips, and inspiring exchange!
