The New Name: Music Change Germany

As previously announced, our association has been in the process of changing its name since 2023. The process was initiated in response to feedback from our regional networks as well as people outside the association, who pointed out that the previous name, Music Women* Germany, was not sufficiently inclusive and therefore did not fully reflect our values and identity as an organisation.

Our association is committed to intersectional gender justice on stage, behind the scenes, and throughout the music industry. We want to reach and bring together people of all genders and identities and work collectively towards meaningful change in the music industry. Our previous name could no longer adequately reflect this commitment.

To find a new name that could be supported by as many people within the association as possible, the renaming process was developed further together with members, representatives of the regional networks, and the board. Following discussions, workshops, and several rounds of consultation, a proposal has now received broad support: Music Change Germany

A majority of members voted in favour of the new name, Music Change Germany. The proposal was put to a vote at an extraordinary general meeting on 25 August 2026.

With our new name, we want to make even clearer what our association stands for: driving change in the music industry, strengthening diversity, and working together for greater gender justice.

The name is changing – our goal remains the same: a fairer and more diverse music landscape for everyone!
