Women on the Dancefloor: Music Women* Germany in the newspaper taz
In a recent feature, taz explores how female the dancefloor truly is, and the answer remains sobering. While men still dominate most line-ups, FLINTA* artists continue to fight for space and recognition. Their artistic work is often overshadowed by structural inequalities that shape the nightlife industry.
Our board member, DJ and activist Sherin Striewe (Sherryaeri), emphasizes in the article how sexism and power dynamics continue to make it difficult for FLINTA* artists to claim their place on the decks. The pressure to conform to certain expectations or visual norms can push many to step away from the club scene entirely. At the same time, Sherin highlights that change is happening behind the scenes: collectives, safer spaces, and community-driven initiatives are making the club landscape more diverse and supportive for marginalized voices.
